“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift.”

In an enlightening online CPD session for the Department of English, renowned communication and life skills trainer Ms. Shivani Gupta, with over 15 years of experience in education, guided teachers through innovative approaches to making literature classes more interactive and student-centric. The session highlighted moving beyond traditional reading, demonstrating active learning strategies designed to spark curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation of prose.

Practical approaches to enhance student engagement were explored, including Freytag’s Pyramid Sheets, Anticipation Guides, KWL charts, Reciprocal Teaching, Exit Cards, and targeted worksheets. These tools equip teachers with actionable strategies to create classrooms that are dynamic, inclusive, and thought-provoking.

Ms. Sudha Bhuvaneswaran, Head of the English Department, concluded with a note of thanks, highlighting the key insights from the session. Participants praised the focus on critical thinking and making literature relatable, noting how such methods spark genuine enthusiasm among students.

Overall, the session was highly enriching, offering valuable takeaways that balance curriculum goals with innovative, experiential teaching practices.
