Circular 287- Awareness on Study in India (SII) Portal
Dear Parents,
Greetings!
Date: 28.08.2025
Subject: REGISTRATION – INTERNATIONAL DIALOGUE COMPETITION 2025
As part of the Ministry of Education, Government of India’s initiatives to promote the internationalization of higher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a significant step has been taken through the launch of the ‘Study in India (SII) Portal’ on 3rd August 2023. This initiative is jointly led by the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The SII Portal serves as a one stop platform for international students, simplifying the process of:
- Submitting applications
- Admission procedures
- Student visa applications
This portal acts as a gateway for pursuing regular, short-term, or long-term courses in Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).
Key Highlights:
- All foreign students aspiring to study in India must mandatorily register on the SII Portal.
- Upon registration, the portal will generate a unique SII-ID, which is to be quoted in the student visa application.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs has also introduced the e-Student Visa, which can be applied for using the SII-ID via the Indian Visa Portal.
- Registration on the SII Portal is essential for the operationalization of the e-Student Visa.
This is an important opportunity for students to explore higher education in India through a streamlined and transparent process.
You are encouraged to visit the official Study in India (SII) Portal for detailed information and guidance.
Warm regards,

Meenal Bakshi
